LOCATIONS & MAPS

At the Norton Bariatric and Weight Management Program we understand the decision to undergo any type of surgery can be daunting. That's why we work to provide our patients with information, expertise and compassion during their decision making process.

The Norton Bariatric and Weight Management Program offers free information seminars every week at two convenient locations. Patients are encouraged to attend these seminars to meet program staff and surgeons as well as learn about our award winning, fully accredited Program.

Research
We encourage you to learn as much as possible about bariatric weight loss options. The more informed you are, the better your outcome will be. Bariatric surgery is currently approved for people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 kg/m2 or higher or a BMI of 35 to 39.9 kg/m2 with certain obesity-related medical conditions.

For more information or to calculate your BMI, visit .
Seminar
Seminars are offered at Norton Hospital, 200 E. Chestnut St., downtown Louisville, or at Norton Suburban Hospital, 4001 Dutchmans Lane. During the seminar, members of the Norton Bariatric and Weight Management Program will explain your options in more detail, and a bariatric surgeon will provide information on both the adjustable gastric banding and gastric bypass procedures. There will also be question-and-answer time.
Complete Patient Information Packet
You will find a comprehensive patient information packet online at . After you've made your decision to proceed with surgery you will need to fill out the packet and return it to the Norton Bariatric and Weight Management Program. Our staff is here to help. Call (502) 629-3396 for information or assistance.
Program Assessment
Once your packet has been reviewed and your insurance verified, a member of the Norton Bariatric and Weight Management Program will call you to schedule a time to come to the office for an assessment. The assessment will include watching a video about surgical options and meeting with a bariatric nurse, dietitian and mental health professional. We work to ensure your success before and after surgery. That's why we have assembled a team of multidisciplinary professionals to help you during your weight loss journey; from choosing better meal options to providing professional emotional support, we strive to care for all your weight loss associated needs.
Surgeon Visit
After your assessment, you will be ready to meet with your surgeon. The surgeon will review your medical history, discuss the procedure and answer any questions. Your surgeon will also oversee your follow-up care.
Pre-admission Teaching and Testing
Prior to your procedure, you will undergo any necessary testing ordered by your physician. Once your test results are complete, and your insurance company approves your procedure, your surgery will be scheduled. In addition, you will attend an education session with the Norton Bariatric and Weight Management team to make sure you are informed about your procedure and follow-up care.
Surgery
Your surgery will be performed at the hospital of you choice: Norton Hospital or Norton Suburban Hospital. Laparoscopic adjustable banding patients spend the evening in the hospital, then complete testing the following day to make sure they are ready to go home. Gastric bypass patients typically spend approximately two days in the hospital. Patients who choose open gastric bypass will be in the hospital approximately four days.
Follow-up Care
After your surgery, you will follow up with your surgeon. In addition, the Norton Bariatric Weight Management team is always available for questions. We offer monthly support groups to help you as you adjust to new eating habits and the emotions you are experiencing. The surgery is just one part - now you must change your lifestyle! Just know, we are always here to help in your weight loss journey.
